HiStick® N/T: One-Step Inoculation and Disease Protection

New HiStick N/T gives legume growers double value by providing the highest - quality inoculation and extended disease protection in one safe, easy-to-use planter-box application. The unique product achieves this dual activity by combining HiStick high-powered inoculant with a patented strain of  Bacillus subtilis in a convenient, single-pack product.

HiStick N/T can be used by any legume grower to provide effective inoculation for improved nodulation and increased nitrogen fixing activity, along with biological root disease protection that far outlasts chemical controls. This unique combination of activity can increase yields and improve economic returns on legume crops.

EPA-registered HiStick N/T products are available for soybeans, peanuts, dry beans (phaseolus) and alfalfa.  Soil disease that are directly or indirectly controlled by HiStick N/T include species of Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Aspergillus, and Alternari. Many of these diseases can affect legumes at mid- or late-season, as well as during the seedling growth stage.  HiStick N/T can provide protection from these diseases throughout the growing season, long after conventional chemical seed treatments have worn off.

The rhizobial component of HiStick N/T is well known among industry researchers for its potency and viability.  The manufacturer, MicroBio Group, guarantees that it contains at least two billion live rhizobial cells per gram of product.  It is packaged in a pre-sterilized, peat-based medium that contains no contaminants that can reduce beneficial rhizobial numbers.  In numerous tests throughout the country, HiStick inoculant has proven its ability to increase yields in legume crops, providing growers with a good return on investment.

The Bacillus subtilis strain in HiStick N/T, MBI 600, is an EPA-registered beneficial organism that rapidly establishes itself along the developing root system of the young seedling, improving emergence and stand counts.  As the Bacillus subtilis continues to colonize the developing root system, a well-documented barrier against diseases pathogens is created.  This results in increased disease protection.  In addition, MBI 600 produces an anti-fungal metabolite that actually reduces the severity of many damping-off diseases. This activity continues throughout the growing season.  MicroBio guarantees that each gram of HiStick N/T contains at least 200 million live, viable cells of Bacillus subtilis.

The combined activity of high-quality rhizobium and Bacillus subtilis in HiStick N/T results in positive agronomic benefits for legume crops.  The root protection with Bacillus subtilis helps provide a healthier and more extensive root system. This larger root area can increase the potential nodulation sites for rhizobia.

A built-in safener in HiStick N/T ensures the survivability of both rhizobia and Bacillus subtilis when applied with chemical seed treatments listed on the HiStick N/T label.  This unique new product also contains a patented sticker system for uniform application and adhesion on seed in the planter box.  Like all HiStick products, HiStick N/T can be used in all planter types, including air seeders.

Four crop-specific HiStick N/T products are available in 14-oz. packs. Each pack will treat up to 500 lbs. of soybean seed; 200 lbs of peanut seed; 200 lbs. of dry bean seed, or 100 lbs. of alfalfa seed.  HiStick N/T is non-toxic and the natural organisms in the product that not been genetically modified.

HiStick N/T is distributed exclusively in the U.S. by Helena Chemical Company, with headquarters in Memphis, TN.
